Biomass Commodities Corporation and Trumbull-Nelson Construction Company completing wood pellet heating system at Lebanon middle school(26/03/2012)
School Administrative Unit (SAU) #88 designed the new Lebanon Middle School to include the two wood pellet fired boilers to heat the entire 100,000 square foot building. The two wood pellet boilers provide all of the heat for the new building. A solar array will produce hot water during shoulder and summer seasons. Due to this innovative design and the inclusion of renewable energy systems, the new building will burn zero fossil fuels. A Northe... [more]
Breeding better grasses for food and fuel(01/02/2012)
Researchers from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (BSBEC) have discovered a family of genes that could help us breed grasses with improved properties for diet and bioenergy. The research was carried out by a team from the University of Cambridge and Rothamsted Research, which receives strategic funding from BBSRC. Their findings were published earlier last month (Tuesday 17 Jan) i... [more]
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh's biogas plant takes high-solids organic material and turns it into heat and electricity(28/07/2011)
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has dedicated the first high solids dry fermentation anaerobic digester (HSAD) in the Americas. On average, 2,320,000 kWh will be generated annually, providing 8 percent of the University’s electricity needs on its campus. The biogas plant, owned by the University, is designed and constructed by BIOFerm™ Energy Systems, a member of the Viessmann Group. The plant is part of the University’s plan to achieve... [more]
Investment tax credit can help biofuel projects make the crucial step to commercializing innovative technologies(15/07/2011)
