Hydrogen Harvester: OriginOil's Hydrogen Harvester generates hydrogen from living algae
(26/08/2010)

OriginOil, Inc. has announced a new invention that generates hydrogen from living algae, providing an additional energy source from bioreactors. In contrast to previously reported developments in the area, the new Hydrogen Harvester™ uses little or no external energy inputs, requires no sulfur deprivation or other "stressing" of the algae, and no genetic modification. The process employs viable, high growth rate, high oil content algae strains. "One of the primary challenges for algae product... [more]

High-biomass sorghum: NRG Energy evaluate conditions for growing switchgrass and high-biomass sorghum as renewable biomass fuels
(30/09/2009)

The U.S. Department of Energy has identified switchgrass as an ideal dedicated energy crop. As a perennial, once established, switchgrass requires little or no tilling and minimal nitrogen fertilizer and other crop inputs. It can grow over nine feet high with deep roots that can sequester carbon in the root biomass instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. Similarly, fast-growing high-biomass (non-grain) sorghum hybrids can reach 20 feet tall, while requiring much less water than conventional... [more]

Helioculture: Helioculture technology harnesses sunlight to directly convert CO2 into SolarFuel liquid energy
(10/08/2009)

Joule Biotechnologies, Inc. has unveiled its breakthrough Helioculture™ technology - a process that harnesses sunlight to directly convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into SolarFuel™ liquid energy. This eco-friendly, direct-to-fuel conversion requires no agricultural land or fresh water, and leverages a highly scalable system capable of producing more than 20,000 gallons of renewable ethanol or hydrocarbons per acre annually, far eclipsing productivity levels of current alternatives while rivaling the ... Houston Clean Energy Park: Biofuels Power purchases H.O. Clarke facility in Houston
(30/03/2009)

Biofuels Power Corporation has closed its previously announced purchase of the decommissioned H.O. Clarke Electric Generating Station located five miles from downtown Houston. The purchase includes 79 acres of land at the intersection of Main Street and Hiram Clarke Road, together with all infrastructure, equipment, buildings and other improvements. The H.O. Clarke property is adjacent to a 500 MW switchyard operated by CenterPoint Energy and has ready access to the same Texas ERCOT grid that... [more]
