Latest Biofuels and bio-energy product news
Administered by Ofgem, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme is a fixed, index-linked income paid to organisations for each kWh of heat produced by renewable technologies such as biomass boilers over a 20-year period.
Held on 5-6 October 2011 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, EBEC (European Bioenergy Expo and Conference) provides a unique opportunity for those involved in the production of bioenergy to make direct contact with visitors who are interested in maximising the financial ben... [more]
The environmental benefits of using sugarcane-based ethanol are substantial:
* Reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately six percent, or 6,500 metric tons. This is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 1,800 cars on Brazilian roads.
* Reduces water consumption (used as a diluent in the combustion process) by approximately 20 million liters. This is equivalent to the amount of water used by 72,000 people in Sao Paulo on an average day.
* Eliminates 100 p... [more]
Wisconsin’s dairy industry is demonstrating the benefits of using cow manure methane digester biogas. In the last several years, a growing number of dairy farms in Wisconsin have installed GE Energy’s Jenbacher biogas engines to generate needed renewable electricity for onsite power and the local grid.
GE’s newly installed, advanced Jenbacher biogas engine technology is generating 633 kilowatts (kW) in renewable energy at the Crave Brothers Farm, LLC in Waterloo, Wisc.
“Installing GE Energ... [more]
In the European Union, where agriculture is responsible for 9% of greenhouse gas emissions, countries are being encouraged to expand the use of cogeneration technologies to reduce various industrial source points of methane gas emissions, including agricultural operations.
With the international community seeking to expand the development of different types of renewable energy, more farmers in North America and Europe are using GE Energy’s ecomagination-certified Jenbacher engines to generat... [more]
Jatropha is a plant that grows to approximately three metres high and produces seeds that contain inedible lipid oil that is used to produce fuel. Each seed produces between 30 and 40 percent of its mass in oil and jatropha can be grown in a range of difficult conditions, including arid and otherwise non-arable areas, leaving prime areas available for food crops.
The world's first commercial aviation test flight powered by the sustainable second-generation biofuel jatropha has been successful... [more]
GE Energy’s ecomagination-certified Jenbacher gas engines will use biogas created from chicken manure to generate needed power and heat at a large chicken farm north of the China’s capital city of Beijing. The plant is the first of its type in China and could pave the way for similar applications in the future.
The Beijing Deqingyuan Chicken Farm Waste Utilization plant comes as the country seeks innovative ways to meet its energy and environmental requirements. Providing 14,600 MWh of electr... [more]
