low carbon energy: Carbon free energy system presented at Energy Roadmap 2050
(19/12/2011)

In March 2011, the European Commission published the overall decarbonisation roadmap covering the whole economy. All sectors, power generation, transport, residential, industry and agriculture, were analysed. The Commission has also been preparing sectoral roadmaps, among which the Energy Roadmap 2050 is the last one, focusing on the whole energy sector. In order to cut emissions by over 80% by 2050, Europe's energy production will have to be almost carbon-free. How to achieve this without d... [more]

Live Extraction: OriginOil's Algae Screen protects an algae culture continuously from microscopic invaders
(31/03/2011)

Microscopic invaders, such as rotifers, reduce the value of the algae crop by metabolizing valuable oil and biomass. Additionally, invasions can choke off algae growth and reduce the percentage of daily harvest. The problem exists in all types of growth systems, but most acutely in open ponds. OriginOil, Inc.'s Algae Screen™ is a process that keeps algae healthy and productive by selectively eliminating microscopic predators without the use of chemicals. The technology employs an electromagne... [more]

LM6000 PC gas turbine: GE converts gas turbines in Brazil to burn sugarcane-based ethanol
(01/11/2010)

The environmental benefits of using sugarcane-based ethanol are substantial: * Reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately six percent, or 6,500 metric tons. This is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 1,800 cars on Brazilian roads. * Reduces water consumption (used as a diluent in the combustion process) by approximately 20 million liters. This is equivalent to the amount of water used by 72,000 people in Sao Paulo on an average day. * Eliminates 100 p... [more]

Liquid Biomethane LBM: Iveco selects Gasrec as preferred supplier of Liquid Biomethane
(26/05/2009)

Liquid Biomethane (LBM) is a commercially competitive and environmentally sound fuel that can be directly substituted for natural gas. The Government considers LBM to be the most sustainable alternative fuel in terms of impact on resource depletion in relation to alternatives such as biodiesel and ethanol. Furthermore, LBM has the lowest carbon intensity of all commercially available alternative fuels – with one tonne of LBM equivalent to 1,200 litres of diesel, which is sufficient to fuel a 44 ... Low Carbon Buildings Programme: Budget gives a massive boost to microgeneration manufacturers
(01/05/2009)

The Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has given a massive boost to microgeneration manufacturers by pledging £5 billion to low-carbon investments. This will help to generate 900,000 jobs in the renewable energy industry. Substantial funds have also been pledged to support existing manufactures. This will place the UK at the forefront of a worldwide low-carbon boom. A sum of £45 million has been set aside for small-scale renewable energy through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. Grant assistan... [more]

Light Immersion Technology LIT: Light Immersion Technology dramatically increases algae yields to make algae-based biofuels price competitive with petroleum products
(09/03/2009)

Algae, shown to have the potential for solving the reliance on fossil fuels for energy production, are widely recognized as an important source for biodiesel production. Bionavitas, Inc. has unveiled its patent-pending Light Immersion Technology (LIT), a scientific breakthrough that dramatically increases algae yields in a cost-efficient and scalable model. Harnessing the power of the sun or an artificial light source by immersing it in the culture, Light Immersion Technology effectively pro... [more]
